Dear
Parent(s),
I am excited about having your son/daughter in my World History class this year. Sixth grade students learn topics mandated by the Florida Sunshine State Standards. The standards are listed in each chapter throughout the student textbook if you would like to view them.
A primary emphasis this year will be teaching reading and writing skills. Students will be required to produce several essays throughout the year. Junior Scholastic magazines will also be available to supplement current event activities and reading comprehension.
The Santa Rosa County School District purchased new social studies textbooks last year. Your child will be bringing home a copy of this textbook. Please encourage your child to take care of this textbook. You will be responsible for any damage that is incurred. Additional textbook support materials can be found online. Each student has a user name and password and this information will be provided at a later date.
Students will be expected to keep an organized binder. Your child will be given quarter and semester exams in which students will be allowed to use the information in their binders.
Progress reports will be sent home at the middle of each nine week grading period. In addition, Parent Internet Viewer (PIV) allows you to view grades online. Instructions for using PIV can be found in the student planner; I hope you find it to be an easy way to keep up with your child’s progress in my class. If you need more information about your child’s progress, please contact me by calling 995-3676 and leaving a message with the school secretary or emailing me at [email protected]. I will contact you as soon as possible.
Please check your child’s planner each day for recorded assignments.
I look forward to working with your child this year. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Kenneth J. Melton
